Ethiopia, US to resume diplomatic cooperation

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Joe Biden have held a phone conversation on current issues in Ethiopia, bilateral relations and regional matters.

The two sides agree there is great value in strengthening cooperation through constructive engagement founded on mutual respect.

The government of Ethiopia has took measures including the establishment of National Dialogue commission and release of political prisoners to stabilize the country and minimize external pressure.

The Biden administration, on the other hand, been pressuring Abiy's government to cease hostility and discuss with rivals.

It has been also imposed sanctions on Ethiopia including the termination of AGOA.

On the flip side, the government of Ethiopia was undertaking various measures including the No More campaign and showing defiance to US's envoys.

Therefore, todays phone conversation between the two leaders believed to be a breakthrough to smooth the diplomatic contradiction between the countries.
