Diasporas who came to Ethiopia responding to the Great Homecoming Challenge enabled the country generate 22.1 billion Birr of which 239.9 million is gained in terms of donation. 

The country has been held 55 events at federal and regional level that played important role to achieve diplomatic, social, economic and political goals through utilizing the potential of the diaspora, Ethiopian Diaspora Agency announced.

Accordingly, the diaspora transferred over $7 million and €172,000 and also deposited $470,818.34 in December 2021, the Agency stated.

Ethiopian Diaspora Agency Deputy Director General Mehamed Indris (PhD) said that the diaspora also shown commitment to support IDPs and restore public properties damaged in recent conflicts.

They have also played significant role in stimulating the economy through actively engaged in visiting tourist attractions, procuring and promoting local products, he added.

Furthermore, he said, 450 diasporas also took a land in Jimma town to start a $7 million real estate business.

On the flip side, the public diplomacy has helped the nation to consolidate bond among the government and the  diasporas. 

The homecoming also enabled the country to redress the erroneous rhetoric that some international entities propagated as there is no security in Ethiopia, Mehamed hoted.
