The leaders of the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) as well as of their respective member states are heading to Belgium to attend the 6th EU - AU summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 February 2022.
The summit is expected to lay the foundations for a renewed and deeper AU-EU partnership with the highest political involvement, based on trust and understanding of mutual interests, according to EU.
The aim of the summit is to launch an ambitious Africa-Europe Investment Package, taking into account global challenges such as climate change and the current health crisis, the Union stated.
The leaders of the EU and AU member states should also discuss about tools and solutions to promote stability and security through a renewed peace and security architecture, it adds.
A series of thematic roundtables will also be organised in which a debate on growth financing, health system and vaccine production, agriculture and sustainable development, education, migration, peace and security, and climate change will take place, the EU said in a statement.
The leaders of the Unions and member states are also expected to adopt a joint declaration on a joint vision for 2030, it was mentioned.
The Africa-EU Partnership was formally established in 2000 at the first Africa-EU Summit in Cairo.
