AU Summit wraps up with adoption of Agenda 2063 second phase

 


The 37th African Union (AU) Ordinary Summit of Heads of States and Governments ended with the adoption of the second phase of Agenda 2063 and renewal of commitment to address continental challenges, AU’s new Chairperson said.  

Speaking at the closing session of the summit, the newly appointed AU Chairperson Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani said that the summit was concluded with the introduction of the second phase of Agenda 2063 and reiteration of dedication of member states to solve peace and security challenges.  

The second phase of the ten-year Agenda 2063 plan is adopted by the summit, he disclosed while expressing that peace and security as well as pledges to renew efforts to resolve conflicts across the continent were among the issues discussed and took stance by the countries.

According to the Chairperson, the peace, stability, human rights, good governance, and sustainable development problems of the continent entail the integrated efforts of the Union and its member states.

According to Ghazouani, Leaders of AU member countries also stressed on the need to African presence on the international stage with a permanent seat at the UN Security Council to ensure reformed and equitable global peace,.
