Ethiopia releases political detainees

 



The country has released political prisoners including Eskinder Nega, Jawar Mohammed and Bekele Gerba.

Eskinder Nega, Jawar Mohammed and other detainees under their files were arrested in July following the  June 29, 2020 instability that came up with the assassination of prominent Oromo artist Hachalu Hundessa. 

The politicians were charged in relation to terrorism activities in which many had been presumed the case as bogus charges.

The politicians were released this afternoon.

 Earlier today Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that his government will “forgive” rivals for sustainable peace.  

He also tipped that negotiations will take place to ensure peaceful political atmosphere.

With regard to this, the government has included famous political figure Sebhat Nega and others in his file detained following the war with TPLF.
