Ethiopia to develop Mandela’s training centre for tourism



An agreement signed between Ethiopian Police University and Addis Abeba City Culture, Tourism and Art Bureau to develop a historic centre where the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela took a military training while he was in Ethiopia.

University President Deputy Commissioner General Mesfin Abebe and Bureau Head Hirut Kassaw (PhD) inked the agreement to develop the centre for tourism attraction.

The project will showcase country’s historic legacy in support of freedom movement in the continent, Mesfin said while inking the accord.

The development of the centre for tourism site is also crucial to strengthen regional and continental cooperation on African issues, he added.

Developing the centre as a tourist attraction has further merits in creating economic, social and diplomatic integration, said, Addis Abeba City Culture, Tourism and Art Bureau Head Hirut Kassaw (PhD). 

She further stated that the project will help to promote tourism resources worldwide and increase the economic benefit of the country from the sector.
