Ministry warns COVID 19 transmission during Epiphany

The Ministry of Health urged Christians to strictly apply coronavirus prevention measures while celebrating Epiphany as the holiday is known for its congregation.

The Ethiopian Epiphany is a gracious public holiday celebrated by a large number of people through various religious proceedings including baptism and, accompaniment of the tabots, the ministry said in a statement.

The holiday is known for its congregation  and togetherness in which the believers prefer it to show affection one another that widens the opportunity of physical contact, adds.

“This increases the vulnerability for coronavirus. Therefore the celebrants should take the needed precautions.”

In Ethiopia, more than 457,322 people have become  positive from 4.2 million tests.

Among these, 435 patients are getting ICU treatment while  7,147 are died.

“We will attend more festivals if we celebrate the day with the needed caution to keep our health,” the ministry noted.

It has urged the celebrants to properly apply prevention measures including avoidance of physical contact, frequent hand washing and wearing of face masks.
