Ethiopia’s first aircraft arrives home

Ethiopia's first aircraft named “Tsehay” that had been taken to Italy 88 years ago, arrived in Addis Ababa on Friday evening, Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian) announced.

The Ethiopian posted on X that it has cherished a warm reception to the historic flying machine.

“Ethiopian Airlines has warmly welcomed "Tsehay," Ethiopia's first ever plane, which was taken to Italy nine decades ago,”the Airlines wrote.

Historians speak that “Tshehay,” was taken to Italy during the fascist Italian regime invasion of Ethiopia in 1935.

Recently, the Italian government had officially returned the plane to Ethiopia in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The jet was constructed during Ethiopia’s last emperor Haileselassie I regime by German engineer Ludwig Weber who assisted by Ethiopian specialists.
