Victory of Adwa epitomizes winning mentality of black people: Speaker

 


·         Ethiopia commemorates 128th Adwa victory

Ethiopia’s House of Federation Speaker Agegnehu Teshager said the victory of Adwa showcases the winning mentality of black people and encouraged freedom movements all over the world.

He made the remark on Saturday while addressing celebrants of the 128th anniversary of the victory of Adwa which the country achieved over the Italian colonizers in 1896, with a theme of “Adwa the victory all black people.”

The Speaker said foreign enemies had always been attempting to bow the country under their knees but Ethiopia always achieved victory thanks for its strong, united and patriotic people.

The victory has assured the country’s sovereignty and served as an exemplary deed among all freedom movements in the world, he noted.  

Adwa is the victory that proven the wrong narratives of white supremacy over black people and ensures equality amongst both races, he added.

This victory is symbol of unity, coexistence, thereby the current generation must draw lesson from this to achieve prosperity and pass down a developed country to the next generation, Agegnehu stressed.

For Daniel Jote Mesfin, President of the Ethiopian Ancient Patriots Association, the victory of Adwa is an exemplary battle of winning colonizers.

The then king of the country, Menelik II, refuted the European’s scramble for Africa before the war that’s how the battle of Adwa occurred to birthing the first triumph of black people over colonizers, he stated.

At the time, he recalled that Ethiopians accomplished the victory gathering under the Menelik II rule to safeguard their country from invading forces.

According to the President, Adwa is the battle that concluded the prior skirmishes held in Alage, Afar and Mekele.

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of Ethiopian Armed Forces, said on the event that all Ethiopians had fought at the battle of Adwa against the the colonizers in unity and achieved their sovereignty.

Ethiopia had foreign enemies envying on its natural resources but they had been defeated shamefully for strong unity and patriotism, he expressed.

Berhanu emphasized that the Ethiopian national army is always ready to guard the nation by elongating the patriotic legacy of forefathers who preserved their dignity and freedom gripping with colonial powers.
