Ethiopia’s Army Chief says country’s defence force supports seaport agenda

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of Ethiopian Armed Forces, said on Saturday that the national army supports the government agenda of accessing seaport.

Field Marshal Berhanu made the remark during the 128th celebration of the Adwa Victory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He said, Ethiopia has foreign enemies envying on its natural resources but they had been defeated shamefully for strong unity and patriotism of the people.

If the country achieve seaport, he indicated that it would have strong navy that ensure peace locally and regionally.

The army is ready to do everything beside the government to achieve seaport, he stated.

“We will contribute whatever we can,” he said representing the national army.

The Chief also expressed that the army is building capacity to be the shield of the nation and its people.

Since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland over sea access in the first of January, political tension has been escalating in the region as Somalia considered the deal as a violation on its territorial integrity.
